Story: barangay chairman in Laoag city injured after being shot in front of her office

A barangay chairman was injured after being shot by still unidentified suspect in Barangay 50 Buttong, Laoag City.

The incident occurred at around 8:30 am of October 17, 2008 in front of the barangay hall itself.

The victim was identified as Maureen Bonoan, 52, the barangay chairman of barangay 50 Buttong. She was walking in front of the barangay hall together with four other barangay officers when she was shot.

They were about to attend the evaluation process for most outstanding barangay in Laoag.

Based on the report of SPO4 Arturo Matio, two suspects were riding in one motorcycle without plate number. The suspect that was riding at the back of the driver, alighted the said motorcycle and shot Bonoan twice then immediately escaped by riding again at the motorcycle.

Investigators still investigating the motive behind the incident.

Recovered from the crime scene, two empty shells of 9mm. Bonoan sustained gunshot wounds on his neck that exited through the right back shoulder and on her right thigh.

The victim was rushed at Mariano Marcos hospital and will undergo operation.
