Story: Civilian volunteer killed after MILF attacked North Cotabato

A member of civilian volunteer organization (CVO) was killed after the Moro Liberation Front (MILF) rebels attacked North Cotabato once again.

The attack occurred at around 7:00 am of October 14, 2008, which also lasted for about 30 minutes at Barangay Balogo, Pigcawayan, North Cotabato.

Sr. Supt. Lester Camba, Provincial Director of North Cotabato has identified the victim that died as Renato Regundo, a civilian volunteer, while he is applying pest control on the farm that he is working. He sustained gun shot wounds on different parts of his body.

Camba said, undetermined number of armed men attacked at the area that lead to the death of Regundo.

Pigcawayan police, barangay officials and CVO immediately responded the reason for the MILF rebels to back-out.

Meanwhile, Camba added that around 9:15 am, the same date, the 40th Infantry Battalion had an encounter with the MILF in Midsayap, particularly in the barangays of Damatulan, Macasendeg, and Kadigasan.

Camba also said that before the Supreme Court decides on the ruling stating that the Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain as unconstitutional, they are receiving intelligence reports that the MILF will really attack North Cotabato the reason for them to be on full alert in the said province.
