Story: Deputy Police Director General Verzosa will be the next PNP Chief, Razon started to bid goodbye to police troops

After of how many days on wondering who will be the next Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) it is now finally announced that the next Chief will be Deputy General Director Jesus Verzosa, the Deputy Chief for Administration (DCA) of the PNP.

Outgoing PNP Chief Police Director General Avelino Razon said “The next Chief will definitely possess the necessary skills and qualifications to hold over the PNP” referring to Verzosa whom he also described as his worthy successor.

During the flag ceremony at Camp Crame, the final one that Razon attended, he said to the policemen “to give all the support and cooperation to help him move the PNP towards finally realizing our vision of a capable, effective and credible police force.”

On ambush interview, Razon said that he can only advise Verzosa to continue the transformation program that he started, and to remain focus on the job that at hand.

On another ambush interview, Verzosa said that he only learned about the official announcement that he will be the next Chief PNP, Monday morning from Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary (DILG) Ronaldo Puno.

“I am happy with my appointment, every officer has a dream of becoming one (Chief PNP)” Verzosa said.

Verzosa added that he will continue the legacy that Razon has started. Also he said that there will be “some movements” on the hierarchy at the PNP once he assumed his position because there will be some positions that will be vacated, but he did not want to elaborate on it.

Verzosa will assume the post as Chief PNP on Saturday, September 27, after the turnover ceremonies, the same date as Razon will retire.

Versoza is 54, and a graduate of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class 76 or the Magilas class.

Meanwhile, Razon already start to bid goodbye to his police troops, Monday. He told the police to always remember the words “Service, Honor, and Justice” and to keep clean the image of the PNP.
