Story 3: IED exploded inside a bus in Digos City, Davao del Sur; 5 already declared dead, 31 wounded

An improvised explosive device exploded inside the bus at around 2:45 pm, September 1, 2008, Monday.

The bus was also inside the bus terminal of Metro Shuttle in Barangay Aplaya, Digos City, Davao Del Sur.

The said bus with body number 209 (plate number LWS-613) is about to go to Malita town, Davao del Sur. The bus came from Davao City and only making stop over at its Digos Terminal before going to Malita.

As of 5:00 pm, five are reported dead and 31 are wounded, all passengers of the said bus, according to Chief Inspector Querubin Manalang, Spokesperson of Region 11. They were brought to Davao Medical Center in Davao del Sur for medical attention.

Only last July 24, 2008 a Metro Shuttle bus with body number 176, also exploded in Digos City Terminal wherein 34 were injured and one has died.

On that previous incident, the police eyeing extortion as the motive of explosion, Manalang said that on this new explosion it seems extortion is also the motive, but they are still investigating the incident.

It can be recalled that the Metro Shuttle bus is receiving calls from Al-Khobar group who are asking Php500, 000 monthly allowance from the bus company, but the management does not agree.
