Story: former barangay chairman gunned down in Batangas

A former barangay chairman in the province of Batangas was shot to death by still unidentified gunmen, Monday morning.

The incident occurred at around 6:30 am, September 22, while the victim, identified as Nicasio Bitang, 54, driving a mini-bus and about to bring students to their school. Bitang is a former barangay chairman of barangay Matipok, in Calaca (town), Batangas.

The bus was loaded with about 30 students all will have to go to school but no one were hurt from them.

After his post as barangay chairman, Bitang became a school bus driver of Agoncillo National High School, a public school, which is located in Barangay Dacanlao also in Calaca, Batangas. Bitang was killed in front of the said school.

According to Chief Inspector Jerson Bisayas, Chief of Police of Calaca, Bitang was driving the school bus with plate number TRU-184 when the incident happened. “He was about to enter the gate of the school, he was about 50 meters away from it when he was shot.”

Bisayas said that the gunman was already waiting for the victim, and was standing 20 meters away from the gate, then when the bus passed by, the gunman shot Bitang at the head then leave the area and went to a motorcycle that he is waiting for him with another companion.

He only sustained one gunshot wound on the left side of his head from a .45 caliber.

Bitang was immediately rushed at the Madonna General Hospital but died while undergoing medical operation.

The police said it seems the real target is Bitang because the suspect did not shot the students who were riding on the bus but they do not have the motive yet on the said killing.
