Story: Soldier killed in an ambush in Zambales

A soldier was ambushed by allegedly members of New People’s Army in the town of Zambales last August 31, 2008 at around 10:00 am.

The victim was identified as Sgt. Fernando Lozano, 41, member of Philippine Army and assigned at 24th Infantry Battalion and 7th Infantry Division based in Balanga, Bataan. The victim is a resident at Barangay Subay, Morong, Bataan.

He was shot to death by six unidentified armed men along the national highway of Barangay Salazar, Palauig, Zambales. The six suspects were riding in three motorcycles. Each motorcycle has two riders.

The victim is on his way to their office, when blocked by six armed men and shot several times causing the victim to die instantly. He sustained several gunshot wounds on his body and on his head.

The Zambales Police thinks that the incident is work related as Lozano worked in the Intelligence of the Philippine Army in Bataan.

The Arroyo government has vowed to defeat the insurgency problem by 2010 when President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo ends her term.
