Story: Cellsite in Tabaco city bombed by NPA rebels

A cell site was damaged after members of New People’s Army (NPA) detonated an explosive device in its facility, Wednesday evening.

The incident occurred at around 8:15 pm in barangay Buang, Tabaco City, Albay at the base of the cell site tower owned by Globe Telecoms Inc.

Supt. Jose Capinpin, chief of police of Tabaco City, Albay said that the incident is a work of an NPA.

"The explosion was so powerful that it detached the transmission receiving unit from its concrete base," Capinpin said, adding that the attackers and even riddled the facility with bullets.

Investigation showed that more or less eight armed men stormed the cell site and placed an improvised explosive device at the base of the tower.

Capinpin also said that the motive for the bombing of the cell site is extortion.

Estimated amount on damages is still yet to be determined because the facility is totally damaged according to Capinpin and only the tower was being left.
