Story: Tricycle driver killed after being dragged by a bus in La Union

A tricycle driver died Friday dawn after being hit by a bus who wants to overtake in a national highway in La Union.

The incident occurred at around 3:30 am at the intercession of National Highway and Salangga Avenue in Barangay Norte, San Fernando City, la Union.

According to Supt. Pedro Obaldo, Chief of Police of San Fernando City Police Station, the vehicles involved are tricycle and Farinas Bus (AVD-151 with body number 84) who are both at the right lane of the national highway, north direction.

“Upon reaching the intersection they simultaneously manoeuvred going to the left, the tricycle is about to turn left at Salangga Avenue while the bus wants to overtake the tricycle,” Obaldo explained.

The bus came from Manila and about to go to Laoag.

Because of the impact, the tricycle driver identified as Ronnie Gorteza, 41, died on the spot. He was also dragged by the bus for about 20 meters. The tricycle was total wreck.

Obaldo also said that there is also a private vehicle being parked at the side of the street that was slightly damaged on its left side front.

There were only 15 reportedly passenger of the bus including the driver and the conductor who sustained slight injuries.

The driver of the bus was identified as Leonard Castillo, 44, and will face reckless imprudence resulting to homicide, multiple injuries and damage to properties.
