Story: Member of notorious robbery roup arrested by NCR-CIDG

National Capital Region Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (NCR-CIDG) arrested a suspected member of Waray-waray robbery group last November 20, 2008.

NCR-CIDG Chief Sr. Supt Isagani Nerez identified the suspect as Edwin Cui, alias Atud/Thunder. He was arrested by the virtue of arrest warrants issued by different courts. The arrest was not immediately disclosed pending operations for the arrest of other suspects.

He was arrested at Samahan Buklod Bahay Subdivision, Bgy. Tartiara, Silang, Cavite at around 5:30 am last Nov. 20. A warrant of arrest for robbery with violence, signed by Manila RTC Br 42 Hon Judge Velasco Marco, paved the way for Cui’s arrest.

He was arrested by NCRCIDU elements, augmented by ISAFP and Cavite PPO personnel.

Nerez added that Cui was an active participant in the June 18, 2008 robbery at Rustan Supermarket at Harrizon Plaza, Manila where his group carted Php368,200, several firearms, hand-held radios of security guards, who were likewise injured during the heist.

He also admits his involvement in the raid of the Magnolia Foods in Laguna in 2005 and at McMir Foods in 2005 where his gang, led by Billy Velasquez carted a total of Php210,000; another robbery at Rustans store in 2003; a payroll holdup of a construction firm in Caloocan City in 2005; a robbery holdup of a cooperative bank in Sta Maria, Bulacan where his group were killed in a shoot out; a robbery holdup of the payroll of a plastic firm in Binondo in 2006 where three (3) of his cohorts were killed in an encounter with the police; a robbery at the RC Cola factory where he received 50,000 pesos as his share and where a security guard was killed by his gang.

Nerez also said that Cui was a part of the gang that robbed the BDO branch in Binondo where half a million pesos were divested; kidnapping for ransom of a Chinese scion in Pampanga; and the hijacking of a plastic shipment in Pasig in 2006.
