Story: Commander Kato now faces illegal detention, other charges to follow

The Philippine National Police (PNP) had already filed illegal detention case against Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Commander Umbra Kato, Commander of 105th Base Command last Friday and its members last August 15 at North Cotabato Prosecutor’s Office.

This was confirmed by PNP Spokesman Chief Supt. Nicanor Bartolome, “we already filed illegal detention charge against Umbra Kato and other individuals and other charges will follow.”

Illegal detention charged was the first to be filed as the police already gathered evidence on it. MILF members under Kato taken hostage three family members in Pikit, North Cotabato at the height of clashes between MILF and government troops.

The victims were identified as Lucio, 76 and Isidra Fano, 72 and their son DUlce, 43; were taken hostage and killed by MILF forces under Umbra Kato at the height of clashes in Barangay Tinutulan in Pikit town on last August 11.

Bartolome said they are hoping that within this week they could already finish the gathering of evidences and be able to file the charges against Kato and other individuals involved in criminality in North Cotabato.

Among the charges that they will file are robbery, arson and multiple murder.
