Story: Seven injured as grenade exploded in Zamboanga City

A grenade exploded in Zamboanga city last August 20, 2008 at around 6:30 pm leaving seven bystanders injured, but no one is in critical condition.

The incident occurred in front of Marcian Business Suit (Hotel), Climaco Avenue, Zamboanga City, wherein two man riding in one motorcycle suddenly thrown a fragmentation grenade or MK2.

The glass windows of the said hotel were damaged because of the impact of the grenade blast. The hotel is a four-storey building.

Those who are injured were identified as Bernardo Bago, 34, of Brgy Tetuan; Halima Jumaani, 20, of Lower Calarian; Omni Ancheta, 26, of Brgy Pasonanca; Christian Imperial, 20, of Brgy Lunzuran; Roy Bornales, 27, of Brgy Tugbungan; Jonelyn Partas, 20, of Gov. Alvarez Street were rushed to Zamboang City Medical Center; while Winalyn Jumdain, 23, married, of Brgy Sta. Maria was brought to Ciudad Medical.

The police believed that the incident is not related to the encounters happening in other parts of Mindanao. According to Zamboaga City Chief Sr. Supt. Jose Gucela based on the investigation, personal motive is the reason behind the throwing of hand grenade.

The police are now studying if the hotel is receiving threats on the past few days.

Meanwhile the victims did not identify the suspects because both are wearing helmet.
