Story: policeman killed in an encounter with NPA in Sorsogon

A policeman was killed after they had an encounter with the members of New Peoples Army (NPA) in the province of Sorsogon, Wednesday afternoon.

The policeman was identified as PO1 Gilbert Arao, 30, assigned at Albay Police Provincial Office who sustained gunshot wounds on his body during the encounter.

According to Supt. Eliazar Bron, Chief of Public Information office in Police regional Office in Region 5, the 501 and 502 of Provincial Police mobile Group of Albay together with the 2nd Infantry battalion of the Philippine Army were patrolling at the area at the boundary of Jovellar, Albay and Donsol, Sorsogon when they encountered armed men believed to be members of NPA.

The fire fight started at around 3:30 pm which lasted at around 3:45 pm.

PO1 Arao was killed in the area of Barangay Pawala, Donsol, Sorsogon. There were no reported injured in the side of the government.

Bron said that the elements of NPA moved towards the remote area of Donsol to hide from the authorities.
