Story: 9 dead, 11 hurt in an accident involving jeepney in Surigao del Sur
Nine passengers of a public utility jeepney died on the spot while 11 others were injured after the jeepney fall in a ravine about 8 ft in the province of Surigao del Sur.
The incident happened at around 3:30 pm of May 26 at Purok 2, barangay Baculin, Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. The jeepney has route from Barobo town to Hinatuan and vice-versa.
Upon reaching the said place of incident the jeepney experience mechanical trouble. Based on their initial investigation, PO3 George Carino said the jeep lost its brake that caused to fall in a ravine.
Seven of nine who died were already identified while the other two were already brought ome by their relatives. The identified casualties are Fausto Quezada, 77, Helinita Montilla; Mayline Montilla (Helinita's daughter), 10;• Bellaza Casagda, 52,Julieto Soriano, 52; Juamar Ronquillo, 4; and Juan Llamas 1 yr old.
The 11 injured was brought to DOP Memorial Hospital in Prosperidad Town in Agusan del Sur for medical treatment.
The jeepney is owned by Normanito Orillaneda resident of Barangay poblacion, Barobo, Surigao del Sur. The driver was identified as Sulpicio Altamia, will face charges of reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicide and multiple physical injuries. The driver is still at the hospital as of this moment.
