Story: Razon wants policemen to stop watching TV shows while on duty

Philippine National Police Chief Avelino Razon ordered Policemen on Friday morning to stop watching television shows especially telenovelas in the evening while on duty.

But he is quick to say that he is not banning the policemen to watch news on television, “In fact we are encouraging them to watch news, but we are now discouraging them to watch telenovelas or other shows that will catch their attention and ignore their work,” Razon said.

He even admittedly said that they sometimes get information through media because the media is the fastest people who go at the crime scene to get details.

"Trimedia is an essential tool used by police. We have accepted that media reports faster than our regular reporting system. That is why I want them to watch primetime, morning, evening, flash reports kind of news,” he added. The Chief also said that even in his office there is a television set focusing on news.

With this order, Razon wants the policemen to concentrate on their work and to be attentive on the people who are going to the station to complain on something. He even noted that how can a police focus on work if their eyes are on television concentrating more on telenovelas.
