Story: Suspect on Calamba massacre killed by police

The suspect on Calamba massacre happened at barangay Hornalan last May 19, 2008 at Calamba, Laguna got killed by the policemen who were deploy to secure the area after the incident happened.

Calamba Police Station Chief Supt. Nestor dela Cueva said in an interview last May 19 that they will deploy policemen at the area to secure the safety of the people there and to ensure that they can protect the people if the suspect will go back at the place.

“He’s out on his mind that is why we are thinking that he can still have the guts to go back there,” dela Cueva said about the suspect Bernabe Fiesta.

At around 4:00 pm today (May 20) CALABARZON (Cavite-Laguna-Batangas-Rizal-Quezon) Regional Director Ricardo Padilla confirm that the suspect got killed in an encounter at the barangay Hornalan, Calamba, Laguna.

“Our operatives there learned that he came back at the house of his employer and when he will be approach by some of our policemen to arrest him, he fired the M-16 then the policemen fired back on defense that resulted to his death,” Padilla said.

Dela Cueva confirm that the M-16 used in killing his victims was the same M-16 they recovered from Fiesta.

Padilla also said they will still investigate retired SPO4 Florencio Peria about the M-16 that he own. According to dela Cueva, “depending on the assessment of the fiscal Peria might be charged as accessory to the crime because he is the owner of the M-16.”

However, dela Cueva said that Peria is not yet submitting any statement to the police officials. Peria said he wants to consult his lawyer first.

During the conversation of dela Cueva to Peria, the former police told him that the M-16 on his possession is not registered. With this, he might also be charged with illegal possession of firearms.

The M-16 was borrowed by Fiesta from Peria last may 18 at around 10 pm. The firing incident happened at around 11:45pm to 12:15am where Fiesta fired the M-16 into four different and separate houses that resulted to the killing of eight victims and six injured.
