Story 1: Adaza and 2 others freed after paying bail for their cases

Three of the five personalities that were arrested last July 2, 2008 are already freed last Friday night and Saturday afternoon after paying bail at the Quezon Regional Trial Court.

Atty. Homobono Adaza, was freed last Friday, July 4 at around 9:00 pm after paying
Php92,000. In breakdown, Php80,000 is for the proposal to commit coup d’etat charge and Php 12,000 for the obstruction of justice for harboring a fugitive. Ret. Col. Ernie Amboy of the Philippine Army and Ret. Col. Cesar dela Peña of the Philippine Marines were released last Saturday, July 5 at around 3:00 pm.

The release for the suspects were ordered by Quezon City Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Thelma Ponferrada for coup d’etat and Quezon City Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 45 Judge Voltaire Agas, for the obstruction of justice.

Meanwhile, Lt. Col Oscar Mapalo was turned over to the Armed Forces of the Philippines last Friday, July 4 at around 9:45 pm because he has a pending case on criticizing the promotion within the AFP. Mapalo is being detained in Custodial Management Unit in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig while his case is being investigated.

Philippine National Police Spokesperson Chief Supt. Nicanor Bartolome said the only suspect that in their custody now is Supt. Rafael Cardeno who has warrant of arrest for murder case in Las Pinas for being the suspect on the killing of Young Officer Union Spokesperson Baron Cervantes last December 2001.

In a radio interview Adaza said that the arrest is illegal because those who arrest them has no personal knowledge on the circumstance of the event. He added that he was only having coffee with Mapalo whose daughter will be celebrating the birthday at the Crowne Plaza where they were arrested. He also said that

Adaza also added that he is the lawyer of Mapalo and also of dela Pena that is why they were together and not because they will staged a coup.

PNP Chief Avelino Razon said they are still conducting investigation in relation to the coup d ‘etat but e thinks the plot is not active, “We were able to nip it at the bud so to speak but we are following up to ascertain who are the people behind or involved in this plot.”
