Story 3: Crime rate in Metro Manila went down compared to last year

The National Capital region Police Office (NCRPO) said that the crime rate for the first semester of 2008 went down compared to the same semester of year 2007.

The crime rate from January to June, for every month, of 2008 is 13.36% compared to the 15.78% of crime rate for every month as well in year 2007.

Aside from this, Barias said that even the index crime rate also went down from 4,836 of 2007, now it is only 2,883 already or went down by 4.7%.

Also the crime against property went down by 4.79% from more than 3,000 in year 2007 to 2,800 for year 2008 from January to June.

Barias clarified that the do not have records yet the shows that the crime rate increases because the prices for basic commodities became higher. “Our records do not show that crime rates increase as prices of basic commodities increase,” he said in a phone interview.

Though he said that there will be a possibility that the crime rate may increase because of price hike, Barias said they will make sure that they will prevent this from happening.
