Story: DOJ file case against Atty. Adaza and others for coup plot

The Department of Justice already file charges against Atty. Homobono Adaza and five other military and police officials for proposing a coup d etat against the government.

State Prosecutor Emmanuel Velasco confirmed that he already file a case against Adaza, Lt. Col. Oscar Mapalo, Retired Col Ernie Amboy; Retired Col. Cesar dela Pena; Retired Col. Edgardo Tapia and former Police Superintendent Rafael Cardeno at Quezon City Regional Trial Court (QCRTC) for proposal to commit a coup d’ etat against the government.

The five except for Cardeno are now facing Obstruction of Justice for harboring a fugitive which was Cardeno. Meanwhile, Cardeno will also face charge of unauthorized use of alias under the name of Randy Marvella. These cases are filed in Quezon City Metropolitan Trial Court (QCMeTC)

With regards to the estafa case, Velasco said that it will have preliminary investigation yet before they will file the case because the incident happened long time ago and no one has filed a case.

Meanwhile, Senator Aquilino Pimentel visited Adaza at the PNP General Hospital where he has been staying because of his blood pressure.

Pimentel said that Adaza is in high spirits and believed that the case filed against him is a speculation.

“It appears this is a speculation, no foundation. When you practice criminal law you cannot avoid dealing with criminals or suspected criminals, so the danger here is that he is already guilty by association, it should not be like that,” Pimentel said.

Pimentel also said what he knew is that the other arrested with Adaza are his clients, “Atty. Adaza has a reputation that he will fight for the rights of the poor and those who are oppressed that is why people with difficult cases, approached him.”

He added that he was surprised on what happened but he believe that Adaza will fight for his case rightly.
